Course dashboard overview

Overview

The Course Dashboard is the teaching-team hub for operational work: reviewing assessment tasks assigned across the course and handling due date extension requests when that feature is enabled.

Before you start

  • You must be on the teaching team.
  • The Dashboard tab appears in the course menu for teaching-team members (and for students when due date extensions are enabled—see student docs).

Open the dashboard

  1. Open your course.
  2. Select Dashboard from the course navigation.

The page header is Course Dashboard. A sidebar and main content area organize dashboard tools.

Pending product decision (DEC-065–071)

Dashboard option cards show loading while counts hydrate and a plain message when no dashboard options apply (DEC-065). Do not document final empty-state, missing card-title, or count-fallback copy until PO closes DEC-065. Past Due wording, stale-count troubleshooting, and committed docshots are still pending TEA-1794 believable fixtures and ONQ-260 staging capture — regenerate 01-dashboard-options.png after those land.

Dashboard options (landing)

The default dashboard view shows Dashboard Options cards, for example:

CardPurpose
Assessment Tasks (count)Open the assessment-task queues for the course.
Due Date Extensions (pending count)Review student extension requests when the feature is on.

Select a card to open that area.

Assessment Tasks

From Assessment Tasks, the teaching team can switch between:

  • All Tasks — tasks across the course, grouped by assignment in expandable sections.
  • My Tasks — tasks assigned to you.

Task cards show assignment context and assignee information where applicable. Use these views to track rating, feedback, or other assessment work your course generates.

info

Assessment task types and statuses depend on assignments and course configuration. Use in-app labels on each task card for the exact action required.

Due Date Extensions (from dashboard)

When due date extensions are enabled, the dashboard card opens the same review surface as the Due Date Extensions area. For step-by-step review actions, see Review due date extension requests.

Policy limits are configured under Configure due date extensions.

While on the dashboard, the left sidebar may list:

  • Assessment TasksAll Tasks / My Tasks
  • Due Date Extensions (when enabled)

Use the sidebar to move between dashboard sub-pages without returning to the course menu.

The dashboard focuses on tasks and extensions. Other course work uses dedicated tabs:

  • Assignments — create and manage assignments
  • Calendar — schedule entries
  • Announcements — course-wide messages
  • Gradebook / Grade Calculations — grading setup and results
