Connect TeachFront to Your LMS with Dynamic Registration

Dynamic Registration lets an LTI 1.3 compatible LMS connect to TeachFront automatically, without an admin manually copying client IDs, redirect URIs, or key IDs between systems. If your LMS supports the 1EdTech LTI Dynamic Registration standard, this is the fastest way to connect it to TeachFront — and it works with any compatible LMS, not just Canvas.

Using Canvas?

Canvas also supports a manual LTI 1.3 setup process (Developer Keys). See the Canvas LTI 1.3 Integration Guide if you'd rather set it up that way, or if your Canvas admin has already done so.

Who this is for​

  • LMS administrators: initiating the connection from your LMS's admin settings
  • TeachFront administrators: reviewing and activating the resulting connection in TeachFront

How it works, in short​

  1. Your LMS administrator starts registration from your LMS's admin settings, pointing it at TeachFront's Dynamic Registration URL.
  2. TeachFront and your LMS exchange configuration automatically — no manual copying of IDs or URLs.
  3. TeachFront creates the connection in a pending state. It cannot be used to launch TeachFront yet.
  4. A TeachFront administrator reviews and activates the connection. Only after activation can instructors and students launch TeachFront from your LMS.

That last step is deliberate: a newly registered connection is untrusted until a TeachFront administrator has had a chance to confirm it's the right platform before it's allowed to issue real launches.

Step 1: Start registration from your LMS (LMS administrator)​

The exact menu path varies by LMS — look for a setting named something like Dynamic Registration, LTI Advantage, or External Tool Registration in your LMS's admin or integrations settings. When your LMS asks for TeachFront's Dynamic Registration URL, use:

If your TeachFront environment uses a different base URL, use the matching URL for your environment.

Your LMS will open this URL (usually in a popup) and handle the rest of the exchange with TeachFront automatically. When it finishes, the popup will close on its own.

Step 2: Review and activate the connection (TeachFront administrator)​

  1. Sign in to TeachFront as an administrator.
  2. Go to Admin > LMS Connections.
  3. Find the new connection. It will show a yellow Pending badge with a "via Dynamic Registration" hint — this tells you it came through the automatic flow in Step 1, rather than a manual setup.
  4. Before activating, confirm the platform/client ID shown matches the LMS you (or your LMS administrator) actually registered.
  5. Select Activate.
  6. Confirm in the dialog that appears. The connection's badge switches to green Active, and the Activate button is removed.

Once activated, instructors and students can launch TeachFront from your LMS the same way they would with any other LTI 1.3 connection.

Why the pending step exists​

Anyone who can reach TeachFront's Dynamic Registration URL from an LMS can start a registration — that's inherent to how the Dynamic Registration standard works, not a gap specific to TeachFront. The safeguard is what happens next: a newly registered connection cannot issue a single launch until a TeachFront administrator explicitly activates it. If you see a pending connection you don't recognize, don't activate it, and contact TeachFront support.

Troubleshooting​

The registration popup didn't close, or showed an error​

Confirm the URL your LMS administrator entered exactly matches https://teachfront.com/api/lti/dynamic-registration (or your environment's equivalent), with no typos or extra parameters. If your LMS shows a specific error from TeachFront, include it when contacting support.

Instructors/students can't launch TeachFront after registration​

This is expected until a TeachFront administrator activates the connection — see Step 2 above. Check Admin > LMS Connections for a pending connection matching your LMS and activate it.

I don't see a Dynamic Registration option in my LMS​
